How I work
The Process
From the first mark to the finished piece — a look inside the studio.
Idea & Feeling
Every painting starts with an emotion or an image that won't leave me alone. I sketch loosely, gather references, and let the idea evolve before I commit to canvas.
Underpainting
I block in the composition with thin washes — establishing tone, movement, and the underlying energy of the piece. This layer is the skeleton everything else hangs from.
Building Layers
Working wet-on-dry, I build colour and texture slowly. Each session adds depth. I live with the painting between sessions — looking, questioning, waiting.
Finishing & Framing
The final stage is knowing when to stop. Once dry, originals are simply framed, ready to hang straight from the studio.
Limited Editions
Each limited edition begins with an original EricaZart artwork and is created with the same attention to detail as the original piece.
Working with trusted specialist partners, including Wolf and Bear Printers for fine art Giclée printing and Bespoke Imagery Photography for professional artwork capture.
Working collaboratively with specialists in their fields allows me to ensure exceptional colour, detail and consistency throughout the process, so that every limited edition faithfully reflects the character and quality of the original artwork.
Each edition is produced in a strictly limited run of just 25, offering collectors a beautifully crafted, professionally produced piece while retaining its connection to the original artwork.
